Shonan Fujisawa Campus

Where the classroom meets the field.

Furmus connects Keio SFC students, faculty, and staff with the farmers around the campus, working across food, farming, and renewable energy toward a region that sustains both.

About us

Furmus is a joint student and faculty project at Keio University's Shonan Fujisawa Campus, launched in 2026. It works where food and farming meet renewable energy, in particular agrivoltaics, where solar generation and cultivation share the same land, and it brings the campus and the surrounding region together to think through and practise what a sustainable society can look like.

The name comes from Future Farm Campus, and carries two further readings: Farm US, cultivating and raising ourselves, and Farmers, the people who sustain the food and satoyama ecosystems around the campus.

名称はFuture Farm Campusに由来し、Farm US(自己を耕し高める)、Farmers(食と里山の生態系を支える農家)といった意味も重ねています。

Furmus is built to be two things at once. It is a place: a platform where students, faculty, university staff, local farmers, and businesses register, make their interests and availability visible, and stay connected through exchange programmes such as Aki no Agri. It is also a practice: the individual projects run on that platform, including Climate & Agriculture Action Weeks, food and farming activities with the Wada Seminar and Okomen, programmes from individual seminars, and the agrivoltaics project. In that project, the university, local farmers, students, and businesses are working toward a regional model that combines agricultural development with renewable energy, and in June 2026 a student representative received an Excellence Award at the national U30 Idea Pitch Contest. Results and new questions from those projects flow back into the platform, and the cycle continues.

The project carries forward part of the Sustainable Campus Program (2023 to 2025). SFC is working toward carbon neutrality by 2030, and Furmus is building toward a model in which neighbouring farmland supplies the campus with solar electricity while people, food, and farming circulate within the region: collaboration between region and university (域学連携), and producing locally in order to protect locally (地産地守).
